Introducing Daydress x Scribble & Daub

I was stopped in my tracks last September, by the best party invitation I have ever seen! It was an energetic scribble of black writing, surrounding a giant, hot-pink cocktail. It was fabulous! I wanted to go to that party, so I messaged Caroline, the designer of the invite and founder of iconic stationery company Scribble & Daub, and suggested a collaboration instead.

That was last July, which sounds like a long time ago, but actually these things take a surprisingly long time to bring to life.  Caroline was as excited as me and we had a brilliant time being carried away by our ideas.

Caroline drew pages and pages of her beautiful scribbles and we began to imagine the sort of dresses we would want to see them on.

We took inspiration from Caroline's wardrobe - which is where the idea for the Boxy Shirt came from.  This was a lovely old silk shirt of C's, clearly handmade with lots of love many many years ago. We also looked at some classic Daydress shapes, Cherries looked perfect on this doll of a dress, and then the irresistible pull of a sailor collar went together like rum and the open seas with the Checks & Daubs print. Here we are in Jaipur, crossing the road in the old city for cocktails in the Johri Bar.

We have a lovely film of us in the block-printing workshop in Jaipur where you can see some of the prints being produced and get a feeling for the process which replicates so beautifully the hand-drawn and daubed work of Caroline, no two pieces are ever the same!

So welcome to the Daydress x Scribble & Daub party! The best conversation that began thanks to a giant pink cocktail
